I’m currently sitting in the Nashville airport on my way to Hutchmoot ‘25. In my handbag is a painting that was accepted for this year’s Artists& Gallery. I had a piece accepted last year as well, and that one now lives at another home, in another state. I’m pretty sure she’s living her best life there. Returning to Hutchmoot feels a fitting occasion to share last year’s piece here, especially since the “Visual Art” section of my substack has been sitting empty since I added it ages ago.
Garden Labyrinth
Mixed media encaustic on wood panel
One of the images that has surfaced for me over the last few years, in my faith and in my work, is that of a garden in the wilderness. When I feel myself pulled by the things that clamor for my attention, drawing me away from the One who is my life, I return to the labyrinth and follow its path, slowly, recentering my scattered senses on the presence of God in the midst of my winding, twisting thoughts. By the time I reach the center, I find that God has turned my perspective upright, leading me toward what is true, right, lovely, and praiseworthy as I make my way back into the world. There is nowhere on this path that I am not held between His good and gracious hands.

How beautiful this is! The words, the art, and the truth!
